Setting up Outside Dj event in the Bay Area ( San Jose, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Milpitas, Burbank)

One of the reasons folks live in the bay area is because of the consistent good weather. People love to be outside. At times, its not too hot or too cold so they want to be outside.

There is a big difference when you are setting up an outside or inside event. There is way less to think about when you are setting up inside. One does not have to think about the weather when you are inside. The main concern about being inside is how close are they to a power source.

Outside, one has to think about the power source also. Does the dj need a generator or do they provide it themselves. How much extension chord do they need?

Also they need to provide shelter or will shelter be provided for them. The sun can damage gear and also prevent gear from working correctly. I learned that certain brands of speakers can not handle the heat and turned off with the heat when playing at an event in Gilroy. In Burbank in southern California the controller would turn off and one when it got to hot.

Since outside has more space of course then indoors the dj has to consider bringing more speakers to cover a larger area. Would 2 speakers work or would a few bigger ones be needed? For my main speakers I carry weather resistant covers to play in the hot sun or in the rain.

So in the outside events, make sure your dj carries extra gear for the unexpected. As a client, it makes it easier to get them close to a power source and provide shelter for the dj and the gear.

How to set up a bilingual (Spanish latin) dj event in the Bay Area? (San Jose, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Oakland, Redwood City, Sunnyvale)

Being able to enjoy different music in different languages has been a blessing while going to events. When it comes to Spanish music, there is so much to choose from. Playlists can have some cumbias, salsas, bandas, bachata, reggaeton, norteno, corridos, and ranchera to name a few. Then you have the English music to think about. How can you get all that music in one event. Some people consider maybe getting a Spanish band then getting an English Dj. Bands can be expensive so if they want to get all that music then they should consider a Bilingual Spanish Dj that can cover all that music.

I find the music that the older generation likes you play early since sometimes the older folks ten to leave early. Like I would play some rancheras during the dinner part of the night. I would save the dance Spanish music when it is time to get down.

How much of Spanish then English do you play? Each event is different. You can base it on what the clients want and use that to gauge. A dj can have a must playlist and makes sure those songs are played. But I noticed in Spanish Bilingual events folks really get into the Spanish Music. For me if its time for English music I go for the hitters that won’t fail. I like to go to the classics for funk and old school. There maybe some new trending tracks but with old school its been tried and succeeded.

Consider Black and White Affair Dj for your Spanish English Event. Bay Area and now in Southern California.

Bay Area Weddings after Covid Lockdown (San Jose, Oakland, Gilroy, Morgan Hill and Milpitas)

Mid March 2020 something happened that never happened in my lifetime. It seemed like the whole world closed. All hospitality events stopped in California. I just did an event on March 6th and my corporate event on the 8th was cancelled. I had a big race event in April and that was cancelled. My weddings in the summer were tentative since everything was in the air. No one knew when this was going to end.

The answer was the vaccine and while that was being created all the weddings were one by one being cancelled. Its July 2021 and in California we are slowly opening up.

What has changed since early 2020?

Venues are now open to have events. Currently we are in our summer so its warm so many folks are opting to have events outside. A lot of folks in California I notice are still wearing masks even though they are vaccinated. There are few that neglect to partake in the maskwearing.

Dj will take requests but rather by getting a text of what to play. I have seen djs with nice posters stating how to request a song.

Djs are having microphone covers that they have to change after every speaker.

So you maybe wondering is it time to have a wedding in the Bay Area? There are many outside venues and the weather is unbeatable.

Just select a dj that will do whatever he can to ensure the safety of all the folks that you care about in your wedding. Black and White Affair can be the dj for your grand event!

What to look for in bay area dj reviews? (San Jose, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Sunnyvale, Milpitas, and Oakland)

There are many ways to look for a dj in the bay area. One of the most common ways is to look at the google reviews of a San Jose Dj or any bay area city then add dj reviews. Then what google does it looks at your location and gives you suggestions of djs that are close to you if you live in that area. It will not give you the one with the most reviews on top. Then you have your choice of different djs to choose from.

Some folks say do not read the good reviews but read the ones that aren’t the highest stars to get the real scoop. But I don’t believe in that. I believe in skimming all the reviews to get a feel of the dj. Look for common phrases in the reviews since that best represents the dj. “Dj responded quickly” and “Dj was friendly” can run through out the reviews would be a good sign that the dj is on it with responding and has a good demeanor. Also look for key words like weddings or Spanish dj  or different venues you are wanting your party. Its good to select a dj who has experience at your venue.

They also mention to see how recent the reviews are. You don’t want to look at one’s years ago but the ones the past two years. Usually it’s the year but with the pandemic there weren’t really any events in 2020.

So does the most reviews matter? It can be a sign that the dj has experience. But its best to see different djs reviews and see how they respond to the reviews to get a true sense of what the dj truly represents.

Tips for your Bay Area Quinceanera (San Jose, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Milpitas, Sunnyvale, Oakland)

Tips for your Bay Area Quinceanera (San Jose, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Milpitas, Sunnyvale, Oakland)

Plan the event close to the birthday and be warned that Saturdays may be busy especially now since weddings have been held back the past year and a half. Sundays and Fridays may be options and be open to that. Lots of venues are getting booked so get this done asap to secure the location.

Figure out the budget and decide what is most important for your event. You would want to splurge more on what you find important. Is it the venue or the food or the entertainment?

Search for the venue to hold your event and base it on the amount of guests you plan to invite.

Spend the time to find the right Quinceanera dress.

Look for the right entertainment. Do you want a Banda or a Mariachi plus a Dj? At the very least, always hire a dj since they can play multiple genres of music and make announcements and they know what happens at Quinceanera

Consider getting a videographer and a photographer to film the event. Lots of memories that need to be captured. Plus images can be shared with the Quinceanera so they can share with their social media. Quinceanera can be just as monumental like a wedding so it does require just as much planning such as a wedding.

Black and White affair has been in the event business since 2004. We specialize in Spanish music and have do many English Events across the Bay Area. We help planning the right music at the right time. Let us make the event an easy and stressfree event.

How to select a Bay Area Dj for your wedding. (San Jose, Milpitas, Sunnyvale, Gilroy, San Martin, Mountain View, Redwood Ciity and Morgan Hill)

How to select a Bay Area Dj for your wedding. (San Jose, Milpitas, Sunnyvale, Gilroy, San Martin, Mountain View, Redwood Ciity and Morgan Hill)

People have been putting their wedding on ice for the past year and some change. We had so many folks cancel their date and wait for it to be clear. In California, we have been super conservative but it has proven to be safe by its extreme tactics. People are now trying to figure out what dj they should use for their wedding.

First step is to figure out your wedding dj budget.

A dj is what makes or breaks the wedding. You do not want to skimp on this. A dj creates the vibe for the night with the music that they play.

Time is of the essence.

Weddings are going to be taking up dates really fast. I have been getting inquiries for the next two months. Ideally you want to select a dj from 8 to 12 months ahead. For us, we can do a wedding at least a month in advance if needed to be.

Talk with the Dj

Some folks are still resistant to meet one on one in person still. That is ok. There is zoom or facetime or the old school phone call. Pay attention how the dj talks about weddings. Are they excited about it and do they give advice about your special event.

Pay attention how quickly they respond to you.

Setting up a wedding may seem like a second job and folks need answers asap. It helps if dj is on it with the response time. Its nice if they respond the same way you contact them.

Covid Update 6-2020

Covid Update 6-2020

In California the limit to gather is 10 but it is slowly opening. I feel a little foolish writing about weddings since we been under lockdown for about four months. I started to put down my thoughts but I felt fake. So I just want to give an update of what is happening on my end.

I have been getting tons of music. I mean lots of music to sort through. This is the time to do it. My baby has a bib that say snacks on snacks on snacks. So I am literally getting songs on songs on songs.

Maybe out of 100 djs, there were maybe 25 who learned from spinning vinyl. And out of those 25 there are probably 10 who still have the vinyl and turntables. I am part of those 10 percent who still have vinyl. When I was converting my vinyl tracks to MP3s it was a super long process. I had to play each song and record it. Once it was recorded I would have to burn it on a cd then master the volume. But a little known fact is when you download a cd on iTunes its default is at 192 bitrate. So I did all my vinyl and converted it to the default. It does sound fine to the ear but if you were going to play at a stadium it would not sound as crisp as a 320 bit rate. So That is what I have been doing is getting songs I already have but at a higher bit rate. Also going through my collection and just keeping songs I would play. Sometimes more is too much and its good to have the essentials and the one tracks that make you different as a performer. It is always good to review what you have and what tracks you have forgotten. This time last year, I was super busy but these past four months I did not throw in the towel but rather looking to come back stronger and more organized than ever.

Learn2Dj Part of Black and White Affair Dj Services

In California, we are not allowed to have any dj events more than 10 people currently. Some djs are doing zoom parties for households in the comfort of their own home. So during this down time, I have been organizing my music library and my dj education service. I always had dj lessons but it was on a different site and running multiple sites at one time can be a handful. So I decided to combine my dj lessons with my dj business website so I can get all inquiries in one area. People are stuck at home looking to learn a new craft. This is the time to do it since it is recommended to stay home. Different parts of the country are slowly opening up but coronavirus cases are still picking up.

As a dj, I am always doing research on the latest equipment and dj software. It is important to know all the tricks of the trade. Through many years of learning I want to share what I know. I know when I was learning I had to learn through the hard way through trial and error. I want to eliminate that experience and help find success sooner rather than later.

Maybe someone does not want to be a full on dj but rather learn how to set up gear for any event since events right now in California can not be too big this service can be for you also. We go over how to set everything up and what you would need. We can also break down the music playlist. It would be better to have a professional dj there but at these times there has be be different options.

Feel free to check out Learn2Dj on this website and check out the blog area where we go over tidbits to make dj easier. We can do instruction virtually. It does not matter that I am based in the Bay Area in San Jose. We go over everything to beat matching to setting up your dj business.

Check out Learn2Dj.org which leads you to my site for dj instruction.
