The DJ is the New Wedding Planner (Bay Area Dj serving San Jose, Milpitas, Gilroy, Morgan Hill and Palo Alto)

In Today’s ever changing world of wedding, the traditional wedding planner are eventually coming to an end. This day of age folks are looking for something more creative and unique to make their wedding one of a kind. Let’s talk about the ever so humble dj to take the role of the wedding planner.

A smart dj knows how to get everyone on the dance floor and to keep them hostage there all night long! But knowing how to do that they also can help plan the event from start to finish. A good dj can provide feedback on decorations and menu. Since a good dj has been at plenty of weddings then they can give feedback on what works and what doesn’t. They also know folks in the industry who do good work in flowers, photo booths, and other vendors.

So this does not mean the thought of a wedding planner does go out the window. There are a lot of planners who can offer their services at a competitive rate. But if you are looking for fresh way to do weddings then do not look further than your dj as your wedding planner.

A good DJ will be able to bring out all of the skills that make your big day special and memorable.   They will create carefully curated playlists and lighting that highlight key moments in the evening's events. They will also be providing expertise on how best to arrange speeches or music selections throughout the night.  There is no doubt that hiring a DJ as your new wedding planner is sure to add an extra level of excitement and fun that will ensure that all guests leave with lasting memories.

When it comes time for planning your wedding day, why not think outside the box? Hiring a talented DJ as your new wedding planner may seem like a weird choice at first, but it really is worth considering if you want something fresh and unique. They have the experience of doing numerous weddings. Not all weddings have planners and most of the time it is the dj who is sets the pacing and events of the wedding.

California Latin Spanish Birthday Party: What is Needed? (Bay Area Dj serving San Jose, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Livermore, Fremont, Milpitas, Mountain View, Santa Clara and Pleasanton)

First and foremost, you need a dj who is familiar with the classic Spanish jams and with the new music that is coming out. I tend to lean toward the classics but if given a heads up then I can add the new Spanish music that to the mix. I usually get a list from the client and add that to my proven hits to add to the playlist. I want to play as much as their list I can plus adding ones I know will bring excitement to the dance floor.

Usually for this Spanish Birthday events there is food involved. We tend to play some classic Spanish songs but save the dance Spanish songs for later for the dance floor. Some of these dinner songs can be some bachata or ranchera songs or maybe some Luis Miguel Love songs. Again, it all depends on what part of Latin America the guests are coming from. The Dinner portion of the night usually last for an hour. There may be a cocktail or appetizer portion of the night when the party starts before dinner kicks in. During cocktail/ appetizer hour the music can be more festive to get folks in the party mood. It would be ok to play dance music since folks are not sitting down having dinner. When it does become dinner time, it would be ideal to tame it a bit so folks aren’t moving too much in their seats when they are eating.

Please contact Black and White Affair Dj Services for your Spanish Latin Events. We specialize in playing Cumbia, Banda, Salsa, Reggaeton, and Ranchera music.  Please call Black and White Affair Dj for your latin party.

Real Los Gatos Wedding: Melissa and Emilio (Bay Area Weddings: Los Gatos)

I got to do the wedding for a charming couple in los Gatos. They got married in the beautiful Chapel on the Hill in Los Gatos off Highway 17. The pre-ceremony music was awesome with famous songs made into piano covers. People could recognize the song after a few notes. Reverend Kim did an awesome ceremony and loved her positive energy.  They had a nice short ceremony then that’s when the party started.

I loved setting up the playlist for this wedding. The majority of the music comes from one of the best time periods of all time for music and that is the 90s and 2000s. The majority was r&b and hip hop based. Some of the best r&b ballads come from that time period. Songs that stood out for me was KCi and Jojo with All my Life and Crazy. Later on for the dance portion of the night it was a lot of Bay Area Anthems and West Coast Classics.

The Grand entrance was a truly grand entrance. Every group in the wedding party had their own theme song as they entered to the reception area. A few had their own dance routine.

I loved working with the vendors. Q from the venue made sure my speakers were safe outside by getting an umbrella for my speakers. Alfredo provided these dance floor panels that were impeccable. Kayla’a crew with the catering provided good food and they made sure I was taken care of. Sarah and Fritz were the folks behind the cameras and we all synced to make sure we were all ready for the big events.

Truly one of my most favorite weddings with good energy and an awesome playlist. Thank you Melissa and Emilio.

South County is where its at! (Morgan Hill and Gilroy your best spots for djs)

One of the best outside venues in the Gilroy area is Fortino Winery.  I do like the fact that the space is so open and it was outside. I also liked I could bring my 12 inch speakers and it can be heard at the other end with ease. One does not need tons of speakers to be efficient at Fortino Winery. Its also a cool place since they have a big open space and another space to hold events in case one needs a plan b. They can easily hold two events at the same time and even wanted to can hold another outside event at the tables by the front parking.  I had the pleasure to play there this past weekend. It was a school staff event and it was a good time. The music theme was simple and it was just old school. 70s 80s and 90s. Again the food was top notch. They also had a photo booth which was fun for the folks.

The following day was my birthday. Pre covid I would opt to not work my birthday. But this party had the makings of something special. I heard the playlist that consisted of Spanish classics and 80s music. I am a sucker for the classics and I felt I needed to be at this party. The hostess gave me a lot of artists such as Thalia, Alejandro Fernandez, Paulina Rubio to set a good vibe. I have to vote for South County as one of the best places to have a residence event. We had the volume at a good amount and we didn’t have to worry about neighbors complain about the sound.

Single Op DJ Business Versus Multi Op DJ Business (revisited)

I have been in a single operator (single op) for many years so I may have some bias then I did some sub contract work for a multi operator (multi op) so I have seen both sides. Which one is the best and why?

With a Single Op you know what you get when people hire them. Sergio Garcia Entertainment and you get Sergio Garcia as your DJ. You do not have any surprises and you know who you get. All the reviews will mention Sergio Garcia. For a Multi Op you can get someone one year for a holiday party and may get someone else the following year. It all depends if the other initial dj is available. Then there is the question that the other dj that you hired will be as good as the previous one.

If one wants to actually debating on staying a single op or starting a multi op there are many things to consider. Once you start being established as a single op there will be days where you are double or triple booked. With those events, then you refer them to dj buddies you know who do good work. The bad side about that is that does not generate revenue and if the dj buddy does a good job then they will be called instead of you. If you run a multi op and have one of your team do it then you are able to generate money and they can leave a review for your company.

If a company has a strong Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) then the owner’s standards can be passed down to their team. The staff is representing a band. The most difficult issue with an multi op is finding good help. If someone is really good and driven then they can be with your company for a short term and then can be your competition. In that case, you can have the folks that you hire and train sign noncompeting agreements so they cannot start their own company in a certain area for a certain amount of time.

So, which is better if you ask me now? I think if one is organized and make their employees follow their standard practices then in essence, they are creating clones then the multi op is the way to go. It is better to have your company represented 4 times in one night then when a single op just does one event in one night. There will defiantly be more reach with a multi op.

With a multi op, they can send djs to do nonprofit or free events to make it good with the decision makers to set future dj events. Also, with an multi op there are more folks helping with the marketing and more folks can call venues and develop relationships with them.

Hey Mr. DJ, I am a single op who has unmatchable talent and I do not want anyone to mess up my brand. Then stick with what you know but you will not be able to grow. There are only 52 Saturdays in the year and you cannot be at multiple places at once.

So, with more reading and learning about how a multi op works, I have changed my mind and find that having a multi ops have more pluses than minuses. With more power, comes more responsibilities. But with a good management software, then running some djs can be a manageable task.
